Founded in 1910, Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a tranquil, 52-acre
urban oasis featuring more than 10,000 different kinds of plants
from around the world in its indoor and outdoor collection. Insider
tip: The best time to visit is in late April to midsummer as blooms
are at their best. Native flora gardens such as the rose garden are
closed from November to April.
FAMILY FRIENDLY PROS-
A perfect escape from the concrete
jungle, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden is simply education at its
best and most beautiful. Even the little ones will enjoy running
around the grounds. It’s also in very close proximity to Prospect
Park (featuring other child friendly areas such as Prospect Park
Zoo) and the Brooklyn Museum.
FAMILY FRIENDLY CONS- Please
remember that although plants are beautiful, they can be poisonous.
Keep little ones within sight and ensure that curious minds and
mouths do not eat any of the interesting plants. Also, although
this part of Brooklyn boasts some of the best, must do, family
friendly activities, this location of Brooklyn is best ventured in
during daylight hours. Please map out a direct route to the
Brooklyn Botanic Garden via subway or car in order to ensure a safe
and pleasant visit. (Added 11/08)
