ACTIVITIES:
COROLLA-
CURRITUCK BEACH LIGHTHOUSE
1101 Corolla Village Rd., Corolla 252.453.8152
COST: FREE but
there is a fee for climbing the lighthouse tower
HOURS: May - Thanksgiving Weekend: Daily 9 am - 5
pm
Really fun and inexpensive! Follow a little path to the
lighthouse and gift shop. The lighthouse has 214 steps to the
top, where you will see an amazing view! The climb is too
difficult for young children so expect to carry them. There is
not an elevator; the only way to the top is to climb.
Lots of great stuff in the gift shop but it is very small.
FAMILY FRIENDLY PROS- Free
to walk the grounds. Beautiful view.
FAMILY FRIENDLY CONS- Difficult for young children to climb to the
top of the tower, and there is no elevator.
KNOTTS ISLAND-
MARTIN VINEYARDS
213 Martin Farms Lane, Knotts Island 252.429.3542
COST: Varies
HOURS: Call for hours
Martin Vineyards might not sound like a family destination
but they have much more than wine! At Martin Vineyards you
will find apples, grapes and peaches to be picked each in their
season. There is more information on their website for the dates of
each. We went to go apple picking this year. The price for a peck of
apples was reasonable compared to what I would have spent at the
store and we had a great experience along with it. There were only a
few other people there who were all picking grapes, so it was not
overcrowded. We parked our car in the orchard and walked up and down
the rows picking whatever looked good. The apples were delicious!
FAMILY FRIENDLY PROS-
Price is dependent upon how much and what you pick, so you could
make it fit your budget.
FAMILY FRIENDLY CONS- Road in is quite rough. Selection can be
limited.
